Peyton Elizabeth Lee Reflects On Andi Mack’s 10-Year Legacy and Growing Up With Her Fans
In 2027, Disney Channel will celebrate 10 years of Andi Mack. The groundbreaking show centered around Asian American teenager Andi Mack whose life changes overnight when she finds out her sister is really her mother. The series launched the careers of Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Sofia Wylie, and Asher Angel, and even introduced Disney Channel’s first-ever gay character.
During the press junket for her trippy new stoner comedy Pizza Movie, Peyton Elizabeth Lee reflected on what the show meant to her and its lasting impact with Pop Culture Planet. “That's crazy to hear,” she laughed. “The fact that it's been so long is so strange, but I feel it. Sometimes I'll meet people and they'll be like, ‘Oh my gosh, I watched Andi Mack growing up.’ What do you mean growing up?!”
She’s “grateful” that the show still resonates with people. “It's really been exciting to see kind of the longevity of the show's legacy and how people still talk about it. I still see edits on social media,” she shared. “I feel very grateful that people still relate to the show and still care about the show and care about us.”
Lee hopes to keep that connection strong throughout her future projects. “It's really exciting to me, on the note of people saying that they watched the show growing up, because these people that have been with me from the beginning of my career are now growing up,” she said. “And so in finding projects, whether it be the Pizza Movie or Brian or some of the other things that I've been doing, it's fun getting to make projects that are growing up with that audience and hopefully are the things that they're wanting to see at this point in their lives.”
Andi Mack is streaming on Disney Channel and you can see Lee’s new film Pizza Movie out April 3 on Hulu.
