How Megan Park’s Sterling Point Became One Of 2026’s Must-Watch Shows
I'm telling you right now, Sterling Point is the best show of 2026. And Megan Park is a huge reason why.
The show was created by Megan Park, who you may know from The Secret Life of the American Teenager, so she knows teen dramas. She's directed two films that I absolutely loved and has an incredible track record for casting the next big female star. She gave Jenna Ortega her first leading film role in The Fallout and cast Maisy Stella in her standout role in My Old Ass. Now she’s brining that same magic to television with Sterling Point.
The series follows Annie, played by Ella Rubin, a type-A teen who finds out that her mysterious late grandfather left her an island. It sets her on a whole journey of self-discovery, complete with a love triangle, a secret sister, and the chance to follow in the footsteps of her late adoptive mother. There was something about this premise, especially with Annie and Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle), that gave off major The Parent Trap vibes.
But what has really made people connect with the show is the writing. Park allowed the cast to tap into the way they would really speak and give us truly authentic Gen Z dialogue. There's also these really standout vignettes of sisterhood and female friendship and even what it could have looked like if Annie grew up with her adoptive mother that just hit you in the feels.
Of course, there is a love triangle between Annie, Ellis, and Rory (Daniel Quinn-Toye). They both allow Annie to tap into different sides of herself. She really is coming into her own this summer, making mistakes, doing whatever she wants to do. I respect that. Another huge moment was that pull into a kiss between Annie and Ellis. It’s such an incredible moment and it’s crafted so well. In a Pop Culture Planet interview I did with the actors, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie actually told me that moment wasn’t even written in the script! Megan Park and her DP KII came up with it while filming and knew “people would go crazy.” They were absolutely right.
Another standout relationship is, as I've coined it, Ramoona. “I'm so excited for people to see Ramoona in action,” Bo Bragason told me. “I would have died watching them when I was 14, so super excited for people to see it.” And I get it. Bragason is effortlessly cool as Oona and the relationship that she's developed with Ramona feels so authentic as it goes from friendship to love. I'm hoping that we get to see them rekindle their connection in the already-confirmed second season.
While the story can get a little predictable at times, but, between the dialogue and the cast and the direction, Park is batting three for three in my eyes. She's an incredible director and writer who highlights young women and their stories in a way that feels genuinely empowering. So officially: Anything Megan Park does, I'm going to watch… and I'm probably going to love.
