Looking For Your Next Summer Escape? Watch The Five-Star Weekend!

tv

If you’re looking for the perfect summer watch, The Five-Star Weekend is it! Based on the best-selling book by Elin Hilderbrand, it follows food influencer Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner) who is struggling after the death of her husband. Hoping for a healing girls’ weekend, she invites four friends from different chapters of her life to her Nantucket home.

Despite a carefully planned itinerary, long-buried secrets start coming to the surface. Hollis’ childhood best friend Tatum McKenzie (Chloë Sevigny) is facing a health scare. Her college bestie, workaholic sports agent Dru-Ann Jones (Regina Hall), is in the middle of being cancelled online. Her insecure mom friend Brooke Kirtley (D’Arcy Carden) is stuck in a terrible relationship. Then there’s the mysterious Gigi Ling (Gemma Chan), an accomplished pilot and one of Hollis’ social media followers who might not be exactly who she seems.

Refreshingly, this is not your typical show full of so many mysteries that it turns into a murder plot. Instead, the series is grounded in its characters and the secrets they have bubbling beneath the surface. Each member of the all-star cast really gets a chance to shine, but they also have fantastic chemistry together.

What I loved most about The Five-Star Weekend was that it’s such a lovely testament to the power of sisterhood. Set against a gorgeous Nantucket backdrop, these women support each other, challenge each other, and every single one is dealing with something that requires the support of the group.

Even though the series tackles grief and some heavy secrets, it’s surprisingly joyful. There’s laughter, dancing, stunning seascapes, and a chic, cozy atmosphere that will make you want to book your own transformative girls’ getaway. Emotional, funny, and beautifully acted, the show is filled with characters you genuinely want to spend time with. By the finale, you’ll be hoping Peacock renews it for a second season. I know I am.

The Five-Star Weekend is now streaming on Peacock.
