Providence Falls Is Hallmark’s Most Addictive Genre-Bending Romance Yet

Liam O’Connor (Lachlan Quarmby) is an Irish thief from 1844 who is given a second chance to make things right by the Angels of Destiny in the new three-part Hallmark Channel movie special Providence Falls. Sent to present day to help a modern incarnation of his late love Cora McLeod (Katie Stevens) fall for her “true” soulmate Finn Walsh (Evan Roderick), Liam must face the consequences of how their forbidden love has already altered history.

If you’re a fan of The Way Home or Drop Dead Diva, you’ll want to add this trilogy to your watchlist. Providence Falls is a truly spellbinding, genre-bending romance that is equal parts period piece, cop drama, and spiritual fantasy. Lachlan Quarmby brings charm and heart to the roguish Liam, proving he’s got impressive leading man chops. Over the course of the trilogy, Liam’s love for Cora changes him for the better because he genuinely wants what is best for her. Katie Stevens shines portraying two distinct versions of Cora: a naive aristocrat’s daughter in 1844 who longs for adventure, and a modern-day rookie detective with a passion for helping her community through her Second Chances initiative. While Cora has two strong romantic options between the safe bet Finn and the mischievous Liam, the chemistry between Quarmby and Stevens is so magnetic that you can’t help but root for the star-crossed lovers from the very beginning. Cora is supported by her best friend Suzette (Felicia Simone) who initially seems like a stereotypical sidekick, but a surprising turn adds exhilarating depth to her own story and motivations.

Providence Falls also has a whimsical nature thanks to the Department of Destiny and the angels and demons working behind the scenes to influence human lives. Cora and the web of characters connected to her have all been reincarnated again and again in hopes of finally getting her fate right. She is destined to change the world for the better, but only if she has the right partner by her side. This leads to history repeating itself, for better or for worse, as Liam discovers a dangerous criminal plot from 1844 playing out again in 2025. Samael (Keegan Connor Tracy), a straight-laced angel who plays by the book, and Agon (Amitai Marmorstein), a quirky figure who represents the audience’s eyes, help Liam work to guide Cora to Finn. Although, even Agon finds himself inadvertently cheering on the doomed romance alongside us. On the other side is Bael (Niall Matter), an agent of hell on a mission to sabotage destiny’s plan by getting Liam and Cora back together. This was an intriguing dynamic to see at play, especially how they use covert operatives to influence the characters. It makes you question everyone, adding to the sinister mysteries at hand.

Based on the popular book series by Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets, Providence Falls is a sweeping cross-genre romance that will immediately have you hooked. Hallmark skillfully explores love, fate, and second chances in this movie trilogy format, leaving room for high-stakes storylines and meaningful character development in a way that feels more like a full television series. By the final film’s satisfying conclusion, you’ll be so attached to these characters that you’ll find yourself wishing for a continuation or spin-off just to spend more time in this world.

Each installment of the Providence Falls trilogy airs Saturdays on the Hallmark Channel and can be found the next day on Hallmark+.
