Henry Czerny Says Revenge Was One Of His Most Challenging Roles: “It Takes A Toll”

From the Mission: Impossible franchise to Ready Or Not, Henry Czerny has played countless memorable roles throughout his career. But when reflecting on his past projects, the actor pointed to his time on the hit ABC drama Revenge as one that left the biggest impact.

Czerny shared that Revenge was one that challenged him in unexpected ways. “I’m most proud of staying open at times when I felt myself closing off, being protective. It’s really tough sometimes,” he told Pop Culture Planet during the junket for his new Hallmark+ limited series Paris Is Always A Good Idea. “You’re doing a series, 12-hour days, with characters that are going at each other. That’s the nature of the show. It’s not really my jam.”

He admitted that playing the powerful Conrad Grayson eventually caught up with him. “The dipping into a resentful personality day in and day out takes a toll. On me anyway. Some actors may not feel that, but I did,” Czerny explained. “And I didn't realize that until about the third season. I realized that my body's been through a lot. It doesn't know I'm joking.”

Despite the emotional weight of the role, Czerny was “profoundly grateful” for the experience. He credited his family for holding him down and celebrated the lasting friendships that came from the show. “['I’m] so grateful for that because of the people I met,” he said. “I'm proud of the relationships they came out of that and the work that went into it.”

You can watch Revenge on Disney+ and Hulu, while Czerny’s new series Paris Is Always A Good Idea premieres July 30 on Hallmark+.
