Tyler Hynes, Christine Ebersole, and Stacey Farber Talk Chasing “Log Cabin” Dreams In I’ll Be Seeing You
A work errand upends Amy’s weekend plans with her grandma in I’ll Be Seeing You, leading them on a sentimental road trip with the help of a charming activities director. Actors Tyler Hynes, Stacey Farber, and Christine Ebersole spoke with Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado about bringing this joyful story to life and what it means to chase your “log cabin” dreams.
I’ll Be Seeing You marks the first movie Hynes put into development at Hallmark. “We've all seen enough of me. This was a movie made for Christine to come and Christine all over it as she should. It was something that I always thought was needing to happen. It’s the first thing I put in development, I think, about three or four years ago,” he told me about reuniting with Ebersole after Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. “It was a long time coming and I think I’m very, very, very fortunate that I was the lucky one who got to tell this kind of a story because I think having somebody as special and talented as Christine to come in and really be center stage in a movie like this is a dream that, close up, was as enjoyable as it was to watch as it was to do it in person. I'm glad we're able to make it happen and it's one of my favorite movies I ever made.
“It was a very joyful experience,” said Ebersole. “It was like being with the best summer camp wrangler that anyone could hope for. Every day was an adventure. Every day was fun. Every day was frivolity, laughter, and the unexpected.”
Farber is the type A Amy who is caught up in her career aspirations, while Hynes plays the overly free spirited Mark. Both of them have a lot to learn from Ebersole’s Vivien about finding a middle ground in their lives. “I just love receiving wisdom from ideally wise people, like you, but people who have lived longer than me. I try to do that. I have done that,” shared Farber. “But I think it affirmed for me the value of that, of hearing other people's stories about love or about their careers or how they've found joy in their lives. Sitting there in those scenes as Amy and receiving that from the two amazing women in our film just highlighted for me that I want to continue doing that.”
I’ll Be Seeing You also explores the idea of a “log cabin,” or something the characters’ dream about achieving. “Me and my dog on a beach in Greece. Just like swimming with frivolity. Eating a lot of tzatziki. Just getting so fat you have to roll me around the beach and I just have so much skin to tan because I've just got so much of it,” said Hynes. “That's my log cabin. Just letting it all slip away and just drifting into the Aegean Sea.”
“The log cabin might be like The Wizard of Oz. It's always been there. And then you you all you had to do is click your heels, but you didn't know that at the time,” said Ebersole. “It's just as close as always being with you.”
“I have to do some vision boarding and journaling and thinking to come up with my next log log cabin. It changes,” said Farber. “I think just my idea of what I've wanted has changed. Yeah. For so long, the years I was living in LA before the pandemic all I wanted was to star on an American TV show. That was like my thing. I was so narrow minded with it. Then I didn't quite get that, but now I don't even think that's what I want. And so much other stuff happened that was beautiful along the way, so I think I need to go back to the drawing board and think about what I want next, which is a little scary.”
I’ll Be Seeing You airs April 25 on Hallmark Channel.
