Tamera Mowry-Housley Wants A Fifth Haunted Harmony Mysteries Movie… And Teases A Twitches Reunion!
Four movies in and Tamera Mowry-Housley is ready for Gethsemane Brown to make a decision. The actress returns as the music teacher-turned-amateur sleuth in the fourth installment of Hallmark Channel’s Haunted Harmony Mysteries: Prelude To A Wedding. Speaking with Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado, Mowry-Housley opened up about how her character has evolved, what she'd like to see in a possible fifth movie, and her next Christmas film that features a very special Twitches reunion.
Mowry-Housley says her character is feeling “more settled and confident” in both her detective work and approaching Detective O’Reilly. “She doesn’t have that novelty feeling of, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m in Ireland!’” she told me. “She’s immersed herself within the culture. How she dresses, her coats, everything.”
“I feel like the love triangle, it's always a slow burn in the beginning,” Mowry-Housley said. “Now you can see her wheels turning like, ‘Oh wait a minute, I kind of like this. I kind of like this guy. I kind of like that guy. What am I going to do?’”
In a possible fifth film, she’s hoping to “shake things up.” “Humor me this,” she quipped. “She says that she was engaged. So I think what would be really cool is her ex comes back. You see O'Reilly and Griff be like, ‘Oh, okay. We were not comfortable with just the two of us, but who is this?’ I think it'll just shake things up and maybe be the catalyst for Gethsemane to make a freaking choice. ‘Cause I think she needs to make a freaking choice now. She needs to start dating one person.”
So who would she cast in the role of Gethsemane’s former fiancé? “I'm doing a Christmas movie with Kristoffer Polaha right now,” Mowry-Housley gushed. “I would love for him to make an appearance in the Gethsemane Brown series because wait till you guys see our chemistry. It's great.”
Speaking of her next Christmas movie, Mowry-Housley gives us major scoop on Mistletoe and Mimosas (wt). The films follows a Manhattan business consultant and the owner of a trendy club as they battle it out in a 12 Days of Christmas-inspired contest to see who can draw in more business. “This is a movie that I'm not playing a mom. I am playing a powerhouse. I don't think Hallmark has seen me like this before, but it's actually closer to who I am as a person. There's lots of banter, there's humor, there's heart,” she enthused. “Without giving too much away, my daughter is in it. It's a pretty special one and I can't wait for you guys to see it.”
Even Mowry-Housley’s own daughter Ariah Talea Housley makes her acting debut in the holiday flick. “I was not ready. When she first went out to say her lines, I started crying,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, it's happening. I'm so proud.’”
Those proud mom emotions quickly turned protective, but she eventually realized she needed to step back and let her daughter find her own footing. “But then I kind of like turned into this… I'm not a stage mom, but I was like, ‘Oh my god, we got to make sure…. Wait, did you get the shot? Is she okay? Is she nervous?” Mowry-Housley said. “And then I had to step away ‘cause I could see she was like, ‘Mom, I've got this.’ I had to trust our director. I had to trust our other producers. I am producing this one, so that was hard to do as well because I didn't want to be too hands-on with her. A lot of people watch Hallmark and I know people are going to be watching this. I want to protect her and all the things, but I thought she did an amazing job. I can't wait for you guys to see that.”
The movie even has a Twitches reunion! “Jennifer Robertson, I wanted her to play my best friend in this Christmas film. I hadn't seen her in over 25 years, but we always had this special connection doing Twitches. She was Illeana and she was my guardian. She was specifically my guardian. Remember, Camryn?” she shared. “So it literally was a beautiful full circle when I got to see her and it was like time hadn't passed. Our chemistry, our dynamic is still the same. It was somewhat the same. It felt like we were on Twitches. It was really cool.”
While they didn’t manage to work any Twitches references into the movie, the pair broke out into the iconic “Go Twitches!” chant offscreen. And Mowry-Housley reveals that the Christmas movie does feature an Easter egg to another one of her classics with Sister, Sister.
But Mowry-Housley does tease that there could be a Sister, Sister or Twitches continuation in the near future. “We've been just trying to get this to happen for years. I think it will happen. I do. It's just the timing,” she said. “It's not if… it's when.”
