Why Not Suitable For Work Is Your Next Feel-Good Binge Watch
Mindy Kaling is giving us a new favorite comfort show with the young adult series Not Suitable for Work. It follows five twentysomethings in New York City as they navigate the highs and lows of their careers, friendships, and love lives.
I really enjoyed this show. Watching it felt like catching up with old friends as the characters embark on quirky adventures while chasing their ambitions. There’s romance, friendship, career drama, and plenty of heart.
The ensemble cast is packed with rising stars. Ella Hunt and Avantika play roommates and best friends AJ and Abby, who are both trying to break into demanding industries. Abby works as an assistant to a celebrity stylist, while AJ is a junior financial analyst. Their friendship was everything. Abby is such a baddie and AJ’s bob was giving me life.
They live across the hall from AJ’s co-worker who has a crush on her Davis (Will Angus), who shares an apartment with his two best friends. There’s Kel (Nicholas Duvernay), a former med school student turned substitute teacher who dreams of becoming an actor, and Josh (Jack Martin), a well-connected nepo baby who leverages his father’s status as a network CEO to land a production assistant job on his favorite investigative news show. It’s refreshing to see such a solid guy friend group on axewwn. I loved their silly traditions and the way they consistently showed up for each other.
Each character brings something special to the group, but it’s their chemistry together that makes the series work. The setup feels comfortingly familiar. It’s funny, sweet, and a little nostalgic in a way that is reminiscent of classics like Friends and New Girl. Not Suitable for Work is an easy, feel-good watch that leaves you wanting to spend more time with its characters.
The first three episodes of Not Suitable For Work is streaming now on Hulu and Disney+, with two new episodes dropping every Tuesday.
