Taylor Swift Officially Owns All Of Her Own Music!

Yes, you read that right! Taylor Swift has officially regained control over her previous musical work after years of attempts.

The singer announced the big news on Instagram with a post of herself on the floor surrounded by her albums that’s captioned “You belong with me” and prompted fans to head to her website to read a longer letter. Swift tells us in the letter that “all the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” while also expressing her gratitude towards her fans for their support. “To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,” Swift wrote, calling out that she now owns all of her music videos, concert films, album art and photography, and unreleased songs too.

In 2019, Swift’s six albums were sold from her previous record label to Scooter Braun’s company Ithaca Holdings. From then, the artist has been on a journey to regain the rights, but remained unsuccessful. Encouraged by a tweet from Kelly Clarkson, Swift went on to re-record her old work with a new flair as she got older and emphasized autonomy in the music industry. From Fearless (Taylor’s Version) all the way to her new album The Tortured Poets Department, Swift was met with greater success than ever before with a sold out Eras Tour, documentaries, merchandise, and more.

It begs the question — what happens to the final two albums that haven’t gotten their own Taylor’s Version release yet? “I know, I know. What about Rep TV? Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it. All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief,” she wrote, while also confirming that she’s already re-recorded her self-titled debut album. She teases that those two albums could still have “their moments to re-emerge when the time is right,” but from a place of celebration now instead of sadness and longing.

Swift fought a long and hard battle to get back what is rightfully hers and we couldn’t be happier!
