Jerry O’Connell Is Ready To Bring Sliders Back: “It Is As Good As Science Fiction Shows Get”
Back in 1995, Jerry O’Connell brought brilliant college student Quinn Mallory to life in the sci-fi cult classic Sliders. The series follows Quinn after he invents a technology that allows people to “slide” to parallel dimensions of Earth, each with their own alternate history and culture. Alongside his companions, Quinn travels from dimension to dimension while searching for a way back home.
While promoting his new Tubi original movie Summer’s Last Resort, O’Connell exclusively told Pop Culture Planet that he’s more than ready to revisit the beloved series. “I'm so glad you brought this up. Shout out to Tubi. These kids are not going to know, okay, these youngsters. I was in a science fiction show called Sliders, okay? It was the first multi-dimensional television show before Marvel was doing it. Sliders, each episode we traveled to a different dimension of Earth and we experienced it and had to get out. It is as good as science fiction shows get. It is now exclusively streaming on Tubi. I've been meaning to post about it and everything.”
O’Connell revealed he and actor-writer Colton Dunn have already discussed a potential revival. “Listen, I know I was sort of grilling Sophia [Bush] about a One Tree Hill reboot and Sophia was like, ‘We're not talking about that. We're talking about Summer's Last Resort.’ Sophia's way more professional,” he joked. “Tubi, wake up. My good friend Colton Dunn, incredible actor and writer, has come up with a great premise.”
The biggest hurdle? Getting the rights. “There is a question of getting rights to it. I believe Universal has the rights. I personally can't afford the rights ‘cause financially I'm going through something right now. My credit. Not the best. Not good credit. I went through one foreclosure and my credit is gone. So, I personally can't get the rights,” O’Connell shared. “But Sliders is on Tubi. Let's go. Incredible science fiction show. I had incredible long hair when I was younger. It’s a real show. Let's reboot it. Tubi, Sliders. Let's do it. Not rebooting One Tree Hill, but rebooting Sliders. It was a great pitch.”
Fans can stream both Summer’s Last Resort and Sliders on Tubi while waiting to see whether Quinn Mallory might one day “slide” back onto their screens.
