Barbara Alyn Woods Reflects On Chucky TV Show Cancellation and Her Dream Of Working With All Three Daughters
“I wonder if Hallmark would consider doing a Chucky movie,” laughed Barbara Alyn Woods during a virtual press interview for her new Hallmark Channel movie Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story. The Countdown to Christmas film finds a freelance reporter writing a profile on a Chicago Bears superfan getting ready to attend her 500th game. In conversation with Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado, Woods spoke about Holiday Touchdown, Chucky, and her dream to work with all three of her daughters.
The Chicago native called it “extra special” to celebrate the Chicago Bears community she grew up with. “I had to keep pinching myself when I first heard about this project in general. My rep said, ‘Do you want to read the script?’ I said, ‘Nope. I don't care what it is. It's Chicago. It's the Bears. I'm there. I don't care. I'll do it for free. No, it was like a no-brainer for me,” she told me. “I grew up in that community, so nothing surprised me because I've known what a tight community this is my entire life. Honestly, I had no choice, but to be a Bears fan.”
Her last role was in the Chucky TV series which also brought her close to home in a sense, allowing her to work with her youngest daughter Alyvia Alyn Lind. “It was funny because we have different last names and, at the end of the shoot, one of the crew members came up to came up to us and said, "It was just amazing. There was such great casting. You look the same and you have the same vibe,’” laughed Woods. “Like, that's my daughter!”
The show was surprisingly cancelled after three seasons right after a huge cliffhanger, but Woods would go back in a heartbeat. “Oh, of course. We are Chucky fans forever. Don Mancini is a good friend of ours,” she gushed. “And yes, you wouldn't have to ask me twice. We would be back. We were really disappointed it wasn't going further.”
The real-life mother and daughter played Michelle Cross, Mayor of Hackensack, and her daughter Lexy Cross, who goes from antagonist to loyal member of the core trio. “Working with my daughter was a dream because it's 24/7. We were also living together and we would run lines at home while we're watching TV or whatever. Getting up together, going in the van together. I mean, she might have gotten tired of me, but I didn't get tired of her. She was a really great acting partner.Really, really good,” enthused Woods. “I've been watching her since she was three years old from off camera, but then to be on camera with her was really amazing. My favorite actors I've ever worked with. And I'm not just saying that.”
Her next dream? To work with all three of her talented daughters — Pet Semetary: Bloodline’s Natalie Alyn Lind, We Were Liars star Emily Alyn Lind, and Wayward’s Alyvia Alyn Lind. “Oh, that's our goal. We're looking for a project,” she said. “So, if you have any ideas, please let me know.”
