Anderson .Paak Delivers A Feel-Good Father-Son Story In K-Pops!

When washed-up musician BJ joins the house band of a K-pop competition show, he realizes one of the contestants is his long-lost son. K-Pops! marks the feature directorial debut of Grammy-winner Anderson .Paak, who also wrote, produced, and stars in the project, inspired by his real-life son Soul Rasheed, who appears alongside him. It’s a dynamic that gives the story an undeniable authenticity.

Bright, goofy, and visually vibrant, the film pops with fun animated flourishes and a catchy original soundtrack. It creatively explores both Black and Korean cultures, highlighting the universal language of music and how it brings people together.

While K-Pops! never loses its sense of fun, it’s anchored by a strong emotional core. BJ’s inevitable “come to Jesus” moment feels earned and there’s a family moment in the third act that genuinely hits. It’s the kind of scene that sneaks up on you and leaves you teary-eyed.

Feel-good and fun, K-Pops! is a semi-autobiographical film that celebrates cultural pride and how music can build bridges towards reconnection.

K-Pops! is playing in AMC Theatres nationwide.
